West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has rubbished all talks of making a comeback to the national team. The 34-year-old last played for Windies in September 2016 in a Twenty20 International against Pakistan. The dynamic right-hander hasn’t played in Tests for over seven years now while his last One-Day International was in Windies’s abandoned tour of India in 2014.
Bravo last played in the longer format in December 2010, and his decision to quit playing Tests came after he lost the ODI captaincy to Jason Holder. He has also successfully plied his trade in the IPL missed the 2017 edition of the league owing to an injury that he sustained in the 2016-17 edition of Big Bash League.
However, the Caribbean cricketer has put in an incredible amount of work to regain his fitness. The hard work serves as a testament which saw him feature in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this year.
Although his international career looks might as well over, the 34-year-old doesn’t see himself making a comeback for Windies, he was quoted as saying at the T10 League he’s currently participating in. Bravo is playing for the Maratha Arabians franchise in the ongoing flagship T10 League, where he came in as a late replacement for Sri Lankan veteran Kumar Sangakkara.
Bravo opens up about his future
Speaking about his dismissal from the national squad, Bravo was quoted saying by Cricbuzz, “I was dropped while I was fit. I don’t think now, at 34, it would make any sense coming back. I just need to see what is left for me, for my fans to see Dwayne Bravo playing cricket. That is my priority.”
He added, “I am looking at these tournaments as a chance to continue playing cricket. As long as I can play cricket, I am happy. As far as internationals are concerned, I have been dropped from the West Indies team.”
