Dwayne Bravo set to return for Gujarat Lions
Dwayne Bravo is set to return to the fold for Gujarat Lions sooner rather than later after a successful recovery from a hamstring injury.
Gujarat Lions might be languishing towards the bottom of the points table but they have something to cheer about as Dwayne Bravo has started training post a hamstring surgery. Bravo, 33, sustained the injury in December 2016 while playing for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.
His absence from the XI has been sorely missed by the Lions as pointed out time and again by skipper Raina. Bravo though an all-rounder has had considerable success with the ball in the IPL over the years. The former CSK cricketer currently holds the third spot in the list of highest wicket-taker of the IPL jointly with Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh as he has 122 wickets against his name.
Seeing Bravo training, Gujarat Lions will be hopeful that he is deemed fit to play as quickly as possible for he will bolster the struggling bowling unit.
The West Indian tweeted a video and said that he feels good to be part of training again and is looking forward to be on the park again.
Gujarat Lions have succumbed to three losses in four games and Bravo’s comeback will hold them in good stead ahead of the business end of the tournament. The last year’s table toppers lost to Mumbai Indians in their last game, which incidentally were their first loss to the Rohit Sharma-led team. Putting 176 runs on the board were not enough as Mumbai got home with 6 wickets in hand.
Praveen Kumar has been given the responsibility of leading the team’s attack but has failed miserably taking just 3 wickets in 4 games and has an economy rate of 10 runs an over.
They now face a tough proposition of taking on RCB at Rajkot on Tuesday. Though RCB is below GL in the points table, but have a very strong batting line-up which can target the thin bowling resources of the home team.
