ECB wants to include a retired player in the Test squad to tackle Virat Kohli
Kohli scored 191 runs in three matches and looked in good touch.
The Indian captain Virat Kohli is at the centre stage ever since Team India has embarked on their UK tour. He looked classy in the recently concluded ODI series against England and went on to score 191 runs in three matches. He proved to be the lynchpin of the Indian batting line-up as the visitors struggled after he got out. However, ECB is now considering to include a key player who troubled the Kohli in the ODIs in the upcoming Test series as well.
Kohli’s scores in the ODIs read a formidable 75, 45 and 71 which indicates that he will remain the important player for India in the whites. He was the leading run-getter against South Africa in the Test series. The 28-year-old loves to face new challenges and thrives in demanding situations. It has been the hallmark of his career ever since he made his debut.
Who is the player?
Virat Kohl was dismissed by Adil Rashid twice in the ODI series. Also, the way he castled the elite batsman in the decider was the story of the encounter at Headingley. The ball was pitched at leg stump and as Kohli went to push it for a single on the backfoot, it turned a long way to uproot his off-stump. The reaction of the Indian skipper was worth capturing. He was shell-shocked completely and had no option but to walk back to the dressing room.
According to the reports in Sports Mail, England’s national selector Ed Smith is considering to pick Rashid in the Test side to tackle India’s best batsman. He is looking forward talking to the leggie to reconsider his decision of giving up the red-ball cricket.
If at all he is included in the squad for the five-match series, it will be a huge call and will possess an immediate threat to the visitors who didn’t show a great technique against the spinners in the ODIs recently. Rashid has played 10 Tests for England and has scalped 38 wickets and it remains to be seen if he makes a comeback to Test cricket again.
