Eden Gardens to name its stand after Sourav Ganguly
The cricketing world will soon witness a dedicated stand after the name of former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly at his home ground the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The others stands will be pinned after former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, former cricketer Pankaj Roy and former CAB presidents B.N. Dutt, A.N. Ghosh and Snehasnshu Acharya.
The proposal had been passed in the CAB working committee meeting last year. But with the army being the custodian of the Maidan, where the Eden Gardens is located, its permission is mandatory before any such proposals can be implemented.
Ganguly is one of the greatest Indian captains ever to have played the game. He represented India in 311 One-Day Internationals and 113 Test matches. He is also the current CAB president. Earlier there were rumors of him being in contention for the post of the BCCI president, Ganguly had said, “I have not thought about anything. We will see what needs to be done. I have not done so,”
The Lodha Committee that is governing and monitoring all the moves and decisions of the Indian board had mentioned that the former India skipper is not eligible to be BCCI president, as he has to see through the 3-year buffer off period.
