The city of Kolkata will host one of the ODIs in the upcoming series against Australia and the Eden Gardens is gearing up for it. However, there has been a significant rise in the ticket prices since the last ODI series against England. The tickets which were priced at INR 500, INR 1000 and INR 1500 now costs INR 650, INR 1300 and INR 1900 respectively. The rise in the cost of the tickets seems to have affected the sale of tickets and in a bad way.
The main story:
There was an unusual sight outside the booking counter at the Eden Gardens which was marked by a relatively low crowd chipping in for the tickets. There was a notable lack of enthusiasm among the people which is pretty strange as far as the highly energetic Eden Gardens is concerned. the ticket priced has been raised as a result of the taxes which is believed to be the major reason behind people keeping themselves away from buying the tickets.
According to reports from kolkata24x7.com, a small number of people lined up outside the ticket counter which is used to never ending queues on other occasions. Though the people got hold of the tickets without much chaos, they left with a dejected face due to the high amount of money they had to pay. Another big reason for the lack of spectators is that the match is scheduled to take place right before the start of Kolkata’s biggest festival, Durga Puja. It is assumed that the Kolkatans will prefer to go for pandal hopping or prepare themselves for the grandest festival rather than catching the match.
