'Ee Sala Cup Namde' - Dale Steyn says RCB slogan ahead of IPL 2020
He was asked by a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan to say the same as well as 'Go RCB' and the Proteas legend duly obliged.
Desperate to see their team Royal Challengers Bangalore win their first-ever IPL trophy, the fans would be delighted to hear what their recent recruit Dale Steyn said on Saturday. Royal Challengers secured the services of the pacer in the recently-concluded auction. The upcoming IPL will be Steyn’s third stint with the Bangalore-based outfit.
He had started his IPL career with the same team way back in 2008 before being signed up by them last year as an injury replacement. In last month’s auction, the Royal Challengers signed him up again at his base price in the third round. And ahead of the much-awaited next season, Steyn has left the franchise’s fans delighted by saying: ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’ which means ‘This year, the cup is ours’. The line had become famous in the last edition when the fans desperately rallied behind their team who performed poorly.
Steyn was signing autographs for fans after the Big Bash League clash between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades when he said the famous line. He was asked by a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan to say the same as well as ‘Go RCB’ and the Proteas legend duly obliged.
Here is a clip of that incident
Royal Challengers Bangalore are one of the only three current IPL teams who have never won the IPL. They did make it to the final thrice but ended up losing on all the occasions. The three-time finalists have performed really badly in the last few years. In fact, they have not made it to the playoffs even once since making it to the final in 2016.
Dale Steyn impresses for Melbourne Stars
Meanwhile, Dale Steyn’s performance for Melbourne Stars would have delighted the Royal Challengers fans too. In his full quota of four overs, the right-arm pacer conceded just 16 runs and picked up two important wickets in addition to affecting a run-out. Steyn’s impressive spell helped the Stars restrict Renegades to a modest 142 for 9.
In reply, the Stars chased down the total by losing just two wickets and with seven balls remaining. With the win, the Stars consolidated their position at the top with five wins from six games. On the other hand, the Renegades are languishing at the bottom after losing all of their six games so far.
