Mark Waugh was a prolific run scorer with the bat for Australia. He was regarded as one the most elegant batsmen to have ever played for Australia. He completed 8000 runs in his 223rd Innings playing against Pakistan.

9. Chris Gayle – 221 Inns

The swashbuckling West Indian opener is eight in the list. Chris Gayle took 221 innings to reach 8000 career runs. He achieved this feat versus Bangladesh in Dhaka. He is a limited over specialist and is very well known for his hard hitting and quick run scoring ability.

Ricky Ponting is eighth in the list. Ponting is regarded as one of the most successful captains in the history of cricket. Ponting reached 8000 runs in his 220th innings against England in the year 2008. He was an outstanding batsman and is counted amongst the legends of the game.

Desmond Haynes is seventh in the list. He achieved this feat in his 219 innings against Pakistan in the year 1993. Like most of the West Indian batsmen of his time he was a good player of pace bowling. He formed a successful partnership with Gordon Greenidge in the West Indian batting line up.

Saeed Anwar reached 8000 runs in his 218th innings. Saeed Anwar was a great timer of the ball. Brain Lara is recognized as one of the greatest modern day batsmen. The legendary West Indian has many batting records to his name. He took 211 innings to complete 8000 runs in ODIs. Lara was known for scoring huge amount of runs.Lara was always rated very highly due his batting performances and compared with batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. He is the only players in the history of the game has a century,Double century, Triple Century, Quintuple Century and a Quadruple Century to his name.

Sachin Tendulkar needs no introduction. He has re-written many batting records during his remarkable career. He is on third position in the list. Tendulkar completed 8000 runs in the year 1999 at Manchester against arch rivals Pakistan. Tendulkar took just 210 innings to reach this milestone.

Sourav Ganguly is arguably one of the greatest One day International batsman and a very successful captainas well. Ganguly is the fifth highest run scorer in ODIs overall. He completed 8000 runs in the year 2002 playing his 200th innings against West Indies in Nagpur. Ganguly was an aggressive leader and during his stint as captain, he has been credited for nurturing the careers of many young players like Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh.

AB today became the fastest player in ODI cricket history to reach to 8000 runs, it took him just 182 innings to enter the 8000s club, with other legends listed below him in the list. De Villiers has played 182 one-day games and has reached the triple figure mark 20 times along with crossing over 50 on 46 occasions. Over the years he has been able to maintain a superlative average of 53.20 which is also among the best in ODI cricket today.
