Emotional Gautam Gambhir has a special request for KKR superfan
Gambhir will now play for the Daredevils.
Long before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auctions, the rumour mill was abuzz with the news that Gautam Gambhir, captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, is unlikely to be retained by the franchise. Gambhir himself had expressed his desire to play for his home team Delhi Daredevils from this year, adding that he likes challenges and a change in the team after so many years will be challenging.
This turned out to be true at the auctions. Gambhir, who captained KKR to two titles in 2012 and 2014, was not retained by the Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla co-owned franchise. Soon later, it was also made clear that the franchise was interested in retaining the former India international, but he had himself asked them not to.
Kolkata’s adopted son
What MS Dhoni is to Chennai, Gambhir, over the past six years, had become Kolkata’s adopted son. Before he joined the franchise, the team perennially finished on the last four in the points table, but after he joined, KKR made it to the playoffs four times.
For Gambhir, his new journey with the Daredevils will be exciting, but naturally, he will miss some exciting parts of his long association with KKR. He thus posted an emotional tweet on twitter with a message and a big picture collage which has several of his memorable pictures with the Knight family, including players and the management.
The caption on his picture read thus – “I will miss many parts of @KKRiders may be will get over with time but not the Superfan Harshul ‘Boss’ Goenka. Let’s see if I can convince Boss to convert into being a @DelhiDaredevils fan. While I do that u checkout his collage”
The 2018 edition of the cash-rich league begins on April 7 at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, and the tournament will see the re-entry of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
