ENG vs IND, 2018: Ben Stokes set to miss the second Test at Lord's
India's tour of England will begin in July.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the second Test match of the five-match series against India in August. The cricketer will have to attend the trial of court starting from August 6 which is expected to last for five to seven days. He has been charged with affray for his alleged involvement in the street brawl outside the bar in Bristol in September during the ODI series against Windies. However, Stokes has pleaded not guilty in front of the court during its first hearing after which he went to New Zealand for the ODI series.
Earlier, the CCTV footage of Stokes punching a man had gone viral after which he along with Alex Hales who was also with him during the incident were suspended by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). While the latter was released after sometime and he was also made eligible to play for England, Stokes remained under the scanner. However, when he was charged with affray, he came out with a statement that he will clear himself from the matter soon by keeping his case in front of the court.
Also, ECB allowed Ben Stokes to play for England after that and he featured in the recently concluded ODI series in New Zealand.
What about India tour?
India is all set to tour England this year for three T20 Internationals and as many ODIs before playing five-match Test series in August. The first match of the series will commence on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Ben Stokes will miss the second Test which will begin on August 9 as he will be in the middle of the court hearig in Bristol regarding the street brawl. He will play the preceding T20I and ODI series against India.
Even the hearing of Ryan Hale and Ryan Ali, the men with whom Stokes will involved in an altercation, will take place at the same time. It would take around five to seven days to close the matter according to Sky Sports.
