3. Shreyas Iyer
Iyer was a surprise inclusion in the one-off Test against England considering his recent troubles. While he had a good start to Test cricket scoring three fifties and one century in four matches played so far, he is yet to be tested in English conditions where the ball nips around a fair amount.
He was exposed slightly recently against the quick bowling of Dushmantha Chameera and Umran Malik in IPL 2022. Even the best batters like Virat Kohli have found it difficult in their first tour to England against quality swing bowlers like James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
Iyer could find his place in the starting 11 if India opts to stick with Vihari at number 3 but with Pujara’s form in recent county matches, that seems unlikely. He would look to make most of the conditions though in the practice game and net sessions for future opportunities ahead of Rahane or Pujara.
