ENG vs IND: Distraught Virat Kohli throws towel in dressing room after getting out at Lord's

It was a riveting day of Test cricket between England and India on day four of the second Test match at Lord’s Cricket Stadium. Fortunes swung to and fro and, it was the home team who were slight favorites at the end of the day’s play. India resumed the day with a deficit of 27 runs and lost both their in-form openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma cheaply.

Fans and experts were hoping for a Virat Kohli classic to bail the visitors out of trouble. But it was not to be, as the India skipper had to depart for a 31-ball 20. Till the time Kohli was at the crease, he looked in sublime touch as his classic cover drive was there to see.

He was also rotating the strike well and kept the scoreboard ticking. It seemed the right-hand batter would bat for a bit longer before Sam Curran dismissed him. As soon as the bowler began his celebrations, Kohli was seen distraught walking back to the pavilion. There was an inexplicable sadness and frustration written over his face.

In disgust, the Indian skipper threw his towel and displayed his displeasure of failing to convert the start into something substantial after reaching the dressing room. Kohli last scored a century in 2019 against Bangladesh and the past few Tests, he has struggled to score runs which are generally seen from his blade. Even his last Test fifty came seven innings ago.

Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteswar Pujara find some form

Questions were also being raised about Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, but the duo, for time being, has shut the doubters with a patient 45 and 61 respectively. If Pujara was as determined as ever in the crease, then Rahane too curbed his instincts and played according to the situation. The duo added 100 runs between them before Mark Wood sent Pujara back with an absolute peach of a delivery.

All hopes were pinned on Rahane as he brought up his half-century. But skipper Joe Root’s master plan of bringing Moeen Ali into the attack worked wonders, as the off-spinner dismissed the India vice-captain for the eighth time in Test cricket. The duo, however, found some form and gave India some hope as on stumps on day four, India were placed at 181 for six with a lead of 154.
