Jasprit Bumrah had got a bit of a backlash from the Indian fans after his disappointing outing in the ICC World Test Championship final in June against New Zealand. Maybe, it was a lack of game time back then but he has started the five-match Test series against England with an absolute bang.
On Saturday, as the other Indian bowlers struggled to get regular wickets, Bumrah managed to get his sixth five-for in his Test career. With this five-wicket haul, Bumrah has now registered his name on the honors board in Trent Bridge. This is actually the second time when he has got a five-wicket haul at this venue.
His first five-wicket at this venue came in the 2018 Test between England and India. Interestingly enough, Bumrah had come into that Test after recovering from an injury and managed to star in India’s only win that series. He had finished with figures of 5 for 85 in the second innings when India were defending a huge target of 521 runs and ended up winning the match by a margin of 203 runs.

On Day 4 of the ongoing Nottingham Test, Bumrah managed to end with figures of 5 for 64 from his 19 overs. He started off the day with a crucial wicket of Zak Crawley and Dominic Sibley. When the second new ball came, Bumrah managed to take the crucial wicket of the England captain Joe Root was batting brilliantly for his 109.
The Gujarat pacer then went on to pick up the wickets of Sam Curran and Stuart Broad on consecutive deliveries to get his five-for. He, unfortunately, missed his hat-trick as he bowled a no-ball on the hat-trick ball. After taking four wickets in the first innings, Bumrah ended the Test match with figures of 9 for 110.
The video of Bumrah’s name being engraved for the second time on the Trent Bridge honours board was uploaded by the social media page of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The 27-year-old is the fourth Indian pacer in recent times to get his name up on that board. In the first innings of the 2018 Test, Hardik Pandya had got a five-wicket haul. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got a five-for at the venue in the 2014 Test between India and England while Zaheer Khan had also achieved the same feat in the 2007’s Test. India have won their games at this venue in 2007 and 2018, while in 2002 and 2014 the matches were drawn.
