Team India continues to be on top in the ongoing Test match against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The third day’s play is currently in progress with the hosts’ backs against the wall in reply to 416 runs from India in the first innings. They were reduced to 84/5 at the end of the second day and needed a partnership between Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes to revive them. The duo did well to take the attack to the visitors in the first hour and the England skipper also had luck going his way.
India dropped him twice, once by Shardul Thakur and then by Jasprit Bumrah. But they redeemed themselves very soon and combined to send back Stokes. Mohammed Shami was the unlucky bowler as the southpaw had danced down the ground only to top edge a delivery. But Thakur couldn’t hold on to the catch. Later when Thakur was introduced into the attack, Bumrah dropped a sitter while fielding at mid-off.
However, Ben Stokes continued to chance his luck and tried to go past Bumrah yet again off the very next ball. This time around though the Indian captain was perhaps ready, and plucked an excellent catch while diving to his left. Soon after the catch was completed, Indians erupted with joy and especially Virat Kohli was pumped after what had transpired earlier on the field.

Tense action in the middle on 3rd day
The reason Team India players celebrated vociferously was the furious face-off between Jonny Bairstow and Virat Kohli. The two engaged in a war of words early on the third day and the umpires had to intervene as well. Though the visitors didn’t get the dangerous Bairstow, Stokes’ wicket was equally important as well as the partnership was building. Bairstow will now have to bat well to take England close to the Indian total in the first innings. On the other hand, India will hope to gain a significant lead by skittling the opposition as early as they can.
