The first day of the rescheduled fifth Test between England and India at Edgbaston undoubtedly belonged to Rishabh Pant as he scored a flamboyant 146 off 111 deliveries. But the second day has already seen some drama in the first session as Jasprit Bumrah plummeted Stuart Broad for 29 runs in an over, which yielded 35 runs in total thanks to six extras. During that over, Bumrah’s leg came in contact with the stumps but hilariously, the bails didn’t fall.
The incident took place in the 84th over of the Indian innings as Stuart Broad ran in to bowl the fourth delivery of a prolonged over. Bumrah swivelled to play a pull shot against an innocuous short ball from Broad. But the stand-in Indian captain lost his balance and fell over while the ball raced away to the boundary. Replays showed that his foot brushed the stumps while he was falling over, but the bails remained intact as Bumrah got a big slice of luck.
The Indian skipper was on strike when Broad leaked 35 runs in that over, the most expensive over ever in the history of Test cricket, thanks to some erratic bowling by the pacer, who dished out five wides and a no-ball to make things worse for England. The English fast bowler now holds the infamous record of bowling the most expensive overs in both the longest and shortest format of the game.

India capitalize on some poor bowling by the English bowlers on the second day
India started their innings on the second day from the overnight score of 338/7 and were bundled out for 416 runs. The pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami was watchful earlier in the session, but it was only a matter of time before the latter started playing his shots. Shami lasted 31 deliveries for his brief 16-run cameo before Jadeja reached the magical three-figure mark for only the third time in his career.
The southpaw was dismissed by James Anderson in a quest for quick runs and England were just one wicket away from sealing the Indian innings. But much like in recent times, the Indian tail wagged as they added 41 runs for the last wicket before Anderson scalped Mohammad Siraj for his sixth five-wicket haul against the visitors in Tests, joint-most by a seamer.
