ENG vs IND: Twitter compares Rishabh Pant with Sam Curran as wicketkeeper dons bright and funky sunglasses
India are bowling first on day one of the first Test of the series.
India came up against England on day one of the first match of the series and showed their bowling action. The home side won the toss and decided to take the field with the bat first and as per the English conditions, the pacers showed their skills very well. However, there was one interesting element in the match that caught viewers’ attention.
India’s young wicketkeeping-batsman Rishabh Pant donned funky sunglasses on day one of the Test. As soon as his glasses caught fans’ attention, people started comparing him with England’s young all-rounder Sam Curran. It is a known fact that Curran is known for donning funky rather a bit funny type of sunglasses on the field.
Talking about Pant’s action on the field today, he was all good in his skills and kept chirping from the back of the stumps as usual. However, the way he convinced Virat Kohli to take a successful review against Zak Crawley resulted in India getting another crucial wicket. Mohammed Siraj who got a chance today in the team’s XI got successful in dismissing Crawley when Kohli came up for a successful review. It was only two balls back that team India’s review went in vain and they looked sceptic to take the call.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Rishabh Pant sporting funky sunglasses
One more thing that created a stir in the cricket fraternity was the exclusion of ace spinner Ravi Ashwin. It is known that English conditions support seamers on their pitched and this is why India walked up the field with having Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Shami in the lot. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur were picked as India’s choice of all-rounders. Former batsman VVS Laxman also added that Ashwin should’ve played with India today.
“Ravi Ashwin is a very skillful bowler and he has shown that in overseas conditions too. He was vital in defeating Australia in Australia. They have gone with Shardul Thakur who would provide some depth in the batting too but I would have gone with someone at no.8 who can give match-winning performance and for me, that is Ravi Ashwin. I would have gone with a balanced side that India had in the WTC Final,” said Laxman earlier in the day.
