India’s stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah was excellent with the bat during the second day of the rescheduled fifth Test between England and India as he stroked an unbeaten 31 runs in just 16 balls. The right-handed batter was particularly brutal against the veteran pacer Stuart Broad as he smashed the premier pacer for six boundaries in that over.

As Bumrah smashed Broad to all of the parts of the ground, the Indian players sitting in the dressing room were enjoying their skipper’s batting. With the Indian innings ending on 416 runs, former India skipper Virat Kohli hugged Bumrah as the batter entered the dressing room with both players sharing a laugh together.

Stuart Broad bowled the most expensive over in Test cricket

Earlier in the day, Stuart Broad achieved another milestone for himself as he scaled his 550th Test wicket by taking the wicket of Mohammed Shami. However, little did he know what was about to come. The veteran pacer came to bowl the 84th over of the first innings with skipper Bumrah on strike.

As the pacer bowled a short of a length first delivery, Bumrah pulled and the ball spilt from Zak Crawley’s hand and went for four at fine-leg. Broad tried to continue his short bowling assault as he bowled another short delivery which was too high even for the wicketkeeper as the ball went for five wides.

A frustrated Broad then bowled another short delivery, but Bumrah was equal to the task as he smoked him over the boundary, and to make the matter worse for the England team it was a no-ball as well. As Broad looked under pressure, Bumrah capitalized on the moment and smacked Broad for three back-to-back fours and a maximum on the next four deliveries with the last ball of the over yielding a single.

The Indian innings was then wrapped up by James Anderson, who claimed his fifth wicket in the innings after dismissing Mohammed Siraj with the visitors scoring 416/10 in 84.5 overs. Captain Bumrah remained unbeaten on 31 runs.
