Albeit England are 3-1 up in the five-match series, their batting has been found wanting, owing to some superlative display of bowling by the Indian fast bowlers. Jos Buttler, who made his Test comeback earlier in May, has done an exceptional job thus far in the ongoing series. He is currently England’s leading run scorer with 349 runs in eight innings.

He didn’t make a great start to the series and could only manage 25 runs in the first couple of matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively. In the first innings of the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the right-handed batsman promised with a knock of 39 runs, but couldn’t convert. However, he came into his in the second innings of the encounter.

Buttler shines with the willow

Not only did he help the Three Lions out of trouble, but also scored his maiden Test century. His ton against India might not have saved his team, but it garnered appreciations from the cricketing fraternity. Even in the last match at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton, the Somerset-born cricketer scored 69 useful runs lower down the order and yet again rescued the Poms.

He has carried over his form in the ongoing Test at Kennington Oval in London as well. After a flurry of wickets in the final session of the first day, England were reeling at 197/8 at the close of play. He came to bat with the score at 171/5 and thereafter notched 89 runs to guide England to a substantial score of 332. En route the knock, he also built a crucial 98 run-stand with Stuart Broad.

In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former English cricketer, couldn’t help but admit that the home team is lucky to have the services of Buttler. He took to Twitter and wrote, “We are very lucky to have @josbuttler … He is an incredible Cricketer … One that’s going to Win England games across all 3 formats for many years … Not many can do that … #EngvInd,”
