England not scared of Virat Kohli, affirms Jason Roy
Roy iterated the threat Kohli poses on the cricket pitch.
Virat Kohli recently became the first Indian batsman to be crowned as the number one ranked Test batsman after Sachin Tendulkar in 2011. He surpassed tainted Australian batsman Steve Smith, who perched at the helm for 32-months after which Virat toppled him. The Indian captain is currently playing in India’s five-match Test series against England and has been phenomenal with the willow.
Albeit India couldn’t elude a 31-run defeat at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Virat scored 149 and 51 runs respectively to keep the English bowlers at bay. Amidst some dismal performances by the rest of the batters, the Delhi-born batsman marched ahead. Meanwhile, Jason Roy, England’s limited-overs specialist batsman, hailed him as the greatest and the fittest batsman.
We’ve got to find ways of dismantling him
“His self-confidence doesn’t dip, it takes a lot for that to take a beating. That makes him special. The other thing is his fitness. I think he’s the fittest, greatest batsman,” Roy was quoted as saying in a debate during the MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture.
Roy also mentioned that the English team isn’t scared of the 29-year-old batter. However, he iterated the threat Kohli poses on the cricket pitch and put forth the importance of dismissing him to put the remaining batting under severe pressure.
“Not scared of him, no. He’s obviously a great player, and rightly so, you’ve given him such kind words. He’s an extremely good athlete, an imposing batsman, an imposing figure on the field. We’ve got to find ways of dismantling him somehow, so we can’t give him too much praise right here,” the South Africa-born cricketer added.
The second Test gets underway on August 9 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The visiting team has had some memorable moments at the venue over their cricketing journey and they would be keen to make amends and give Joe Root and Co a run for their money.
