England pacer Harry Gurney bids adieu to first-class cricket
Gurney's first class career spanned 11 years from 2007 to 2018.
Harry Gurney, the left-arm England fast bowler, has decided to call it quits from first-class cricket. The 32-year-old seamer made his first-class debut for Leicestershire way back in 2007 in the match against Northamptonshire in Leicester. Later, the Nottingham-born speedster went on to represent Nottinghamshire and played 103 games in white-clothing cricket.
In those encounters, he churned out 310 wickets with best figures of 6/25. The pacer also boasts of 13 four-wicket hauls and eight five-wicket-hauls in his career. Harry was useful with the bat as well with a top score of 42 not out. The bowler was a member of two T20 winning teams this winter and also the T10 League in the United Arab Emirates as per reports in the Guardian.
In his last season, Gurney was Nottinghamshire’s leading wicket-taker with 42 wickets in 11 matches with best figures of 6/25 to go with a couple of five-wicket hauls. He was also a part of the victorious Melbourne Renegades team, captained by Aaron Finch. Furthermore, Harry had the privilege of donning the national jersey as well, though he didn’t go on to play Test cricket.
Gurney’s recent cricket stint
He represented his nation in 10 ODIs and a couple of T20Is in which he managed 11 and three wickets respectively. However, he went out of contention soon after and played his last game for the Three Lions against India back in 2014. Recently, he played for the Quetta Gladiators, the champions of this edition’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he played only one match.
Back in December 2018, he also got the privilege of being a part of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). Harry was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at his base price of INR 75 lakhs. The Knights have already lost the likes of Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Anrich Nortje to injuries, and hence, Gurney is needed to step up and deliver for the franchise.
