England pacer Ollie Robinson tests Covid-19 positive
England will take on New Zealand in a three match Test series starting in June.
England pacer Ollie Robinson has tested positive for COVID-19 and his attempt to resolve his fitness issues has taken a fresh blow. It may be noted that Robinson has had a problem with his back during since national team’s tour against the arch-rivals Australia and West Indies earlier this year.
After a disrupted beginning to his county season, marred with a dental problems and followed by a stomach upset, the right-arm pacer was withdrawn from the County Select XI to face the visitors of New Zealand last week because of back problems. The 28-year-old pacer is currently in isolation after he was found Covid-19 positive on May 26 (Thursday). His situation will be assessed after his isolation period is completed.
Ollie Robinson was also left out of the England squad
With his fitness being a major issue, the right-arm pacer from Sussex was also left out of the England squad for the first two Tests against New Zealand. Coming to Robinson numbers in Test cricket, the right-arm pacer has impressed everyone in his short career so far. Robinson has scalped a total of 39 wickets at an impressive average of 21.28 in just nine Test matches.
It must be noted that the Kiwi side will take on the home side of England in a three-match Test series starting on June 2 (Thursday). The first Test match will be played at Lords Cricket Ground.
The second Test match is slated to be played at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham which will start on June 10 and the final match will be played at the Headingly, Leeds from June 23. Meanwhile, the visitors had a poor start to their tour as they lost their practice match against FCC XI.
Chasing the target of 264 in the second innings, FCC XI batters Dom Sibley and Ben Compton played excellently. Compton scored a match-defining knock of 119 runs. Furthermore, batter Nick Gubbins (67 runs) ensured that the FCC XI stun New Zealand in the warm-up game.
