England pacer Stuart Broad unlikely to play in the third Test

The England team have received a heavy blow in the form of an injury. Pace bowler Stuart Broad is unlikely to take the field in the third Test of the 5-match series. The match kicks off on November 26 and will be played at Mohali. Broad was seen struggling with his right foot on the first day of the Test. It was later reported that he was set to undergo a scan on his right foot after facing persistent problems.

Stuart Broad felt a slight niggle on his right foot but that aggravated soon after. Despite bowling short spells, Broad looked visibly in discomfort during the match. Later on day 1, Broad was also having issues with his wrist. He scraped his wrist while fielding.

On the day 2 of the Test, Broad dived to his right while fielding at mid on early on the day. As he tried to get up, he again looked in discomfort. He later walked off the field after persistent discomfort in his right foot and the wrist as well. Earlier in the match, Broad had started off really well. He got rid of the in-form batsman KL Rahul for a duck.

He bowled just 3 overs in his opening spell but looked good with his line and lengths. He eventually bowled 16 overs in India’s first innings. He scalped the solitary wicket of KL Rahul giving away 49 runs. He underwent a scan at the end of day 2 following which it was revealed that he had damaged a tendon. The tendon damage will now need him to take some rest before he gets back to fitness.

“Stuart Broad has strained a tendon and one of the small joints in his right forefoot. The injury will be reviewed further at the end of the Test,” an English media statement quoted. Broad, however, will continue to bowl in the 2nd innings of the ongoing Test at Vizag. He bowled 6 overs with 5 maidens as he scalped 2 wickets on the day 3.

England are already concerned about the knee injury of Chris Woakes. They have the likes of Steven Finn and Jake Ball in the lineup, who could turn out to be the potential replacement for Stuart Broad. Back in 2012, Broad was forced to leave the tour midway following a similar injury.
