England assistant coach Paul Farbrace will be on a break when England play a T20I tri-series. England will be joined by Australia and New Zealand in that series. Matt Walker, Kent head coach will replace Fabrace as the assistant coach in the tri-series.
The 43-year-old will be getting the job only on a temporary basis as the regular coach takes rest. The former left-handed batsman has a lot of experience in the county circuit. Walker played 16 years of first-class cricket for Kent in the county championship. Then he switched to Essex where he subsequently played for three seasons.
Walker will serve as the assistant to Trevor Bayliss. The England head coach was apparently impressed by Walker when he worked with the national side for some training sessions earlier this year. It was the upbeat personality of Walker which impressed Bayliss and thus paved way for Walker to join the support staff of the national team.
Walker’s coaching career
His coaching career started when he replaced Graham Gooch as the batting coach of the English national team. Then, he moved on to Kent where he served as the assistant to the head coach, Jimmy Adams. But when Adams left the job at the start of the year, Walker bagged that job.
He is at present the head coach of Kent, which is currently lying in division 2 of the county championship. Kent is currently placed at the 5th position in their division. The final round of the NatWest T20 Blast is on the horizon, and Kent has a shot at reaching the quarterfinals of the T20 stage.
England has long overseas tours now, with many important ones including the Ashes. Head coach, Trevor Bayliss will have to be with the squad for the whole time while they tour for five months.
