England star doubtful for the fourth Test against India
He missed the training session on Tuesday.
England will come into to fourth Test in Southampton on the back of a massive defeat in the third Test. After winning the fist two Tests, England lost the balance in the third game right from the toss to give away the game to Team India. The series is now 2-1 in England’s favour.
The fourth Test is all set to take place at The Rose Bowl in Southampton from Thursday. England players were part of the nets session on Tuesday but their team was missing someone important in the session. It was their all-rounder Chris Woakes, who didn’t take part in the practice session.
Woakes missed the training as he was suffering from the return of pain in his right thigh. The same injury kept him out of the recently concluded limited-overs series against India. He returned in the second Test at Lord’s and played a game-changer’s role to take the game away from the visiting team. He was awarded the man of the match for his all-round efforts at The Home of Cricket.
Spokesman has his say
The Warwickshire all-rounder is doubtful for the Southampton Test and an England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman said on Tuesday as quoted by Sky Sports, “Woakes has tightness in his right quad and will not train today. We will take a view where he is at tomorrow.”
England team management is yet to take a call on drafting in a cover. Sam Curran, who did exceptionally well in the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s is expected to take his place if Chris Woakes misses out on making it to the XI. Curran scored 127 runs in three innings and picked a total of six wickets in the ongoing Test series.
