England v Australia 5th ODI: The likely predicted events which can surface the series decider:

Background:

This English summer has been like never ever seen before for the English fans. You can say it has the kind of magic for which the millions of UK fans were waiting for decades. Coming into the home summer after the miserable World Cup, England revamped its limited overs side completely to get in sync and match up the levels of the ODI cricket. And they have done it in style as well. Haven’t they?

Now they are standing on the cross paths with the series decider at Old Trafford waiting to give the fans a exhilarating experience. The Aussie boys have been cold after winning the first two ODIs but yet they have an excellent record in big matches and deciding encounters to boast off ahead of this marquee clash of titans.

But what events can unfold itself in this showdown encounter? From Toss to batting trends or from bowling to fielding trends, we have done a hypothesis article on the basis of the trends which have occurred till now in the series to predict the outcome of this match.

Toss:

Like any other thing Toss plays a key role in the match. In the series till now both the teams are tied at 2-2, I am not talking about the series score line rather the score line of the toss in the series. The very fact that Australia won the toss in the last match and England won it in 3rd match at Old Trafford, we assume that England will win the toss this time again at the same venue. Eoin will field first as he is brimming in belief that his side can chase anything. They have chased down targets in excess of 300 runs twice, this summer.

Australian batting:

The Aussie openers Burns and Finch are most likely to falter in the match as they are suffering from slump in form throughout the series. Especially, the English pacers David Willey and Mark Wood troubled them. Willey is an X-factor against right-handed batters and he proved it as well in the last ODI when he accounted three early wickets and all of them were right-handers. Smith who is the Australian run-machine as well as the skipper of the side would take a leaf out of his book of success in ODIs and can put up a gritty show accompanied by Bailey who seems to have somewhat got back his lost touch with the bat.

This year Smith is averaging above 56 in ODIs and he would give his heart-out to put up a big total on the board for his side. And with English pacers not coming that good in the series, he is most likely to do so. But after steadying the ship and most likely scoring their fifties they might get out to the spinners whom they have found extremely hard to battle in the series. They have got out to spinners on 3 occasions each. Maxwell has been in good form and he is likely to take on Ali who has got better of him in the last 2 matches. Maxwell will attack the spinners to the hilt but that might well prove to be the reason for his downfall as well as the dry pitch at Manchester will aid the spinners.

But with the blitz of Wade and lower-order batsman in the slog overs which has been the story of the series Australia might well score in excess of 290 runs. The English pacers have struggled in the back end of the innings.

England’s chase:

The Australian pacers will go hard at the English batsman upfront and in the kind of form Pat Cummins is, he might sway away the English openers as well. Cummins has taken 12 wickets in the series. In the previous match, he grabbed 4 scalps and he will try his level best to wreck the English innings in every possible way.

But on this dry pitch, Taylor and Morgan are likely to seal the show for the English side as Taylor is well versed with how to play in Manchester and he is coming fresh from a century here in the 3rd ODI against Australia. While Morgan seems to be unstoppable in the series and has tackled Cummins well in the series and with Agar the likely specialist spinner of the side being left-handed, he is likely to overcome this spin challenge as well.

The poor form of Australian pacers might well prove their Achilles Heels. Eoin is coming to the match on the back of 3 consecutive fifties. And in case the match looms towards a tight finish then England have the likes of Bairstow, Stokes and Ali in their line-up who can pull-off anything spectacular. Even the likes of Plunkett and Willey can come handy with the bat which means England is all likely to clinch the series decider and secure ODI series against Aussie and further rub their wounds after the Ashes loss.
