England came back strongly after losing the first Test at Lord’s against Pakistan as they defeated the visitors by a 330-run margin at Old Trafford, Manchester. England declared at 173/1 in 2nd innings after opting not to enforce follow-on. Chasing 565 runs, Pakistan was bowled out for just 234 runs in less than 3 sessions in their 2nd innings. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day and the game.

1 – Joe Root is now the first player in Test history to score 300+ runs, take 2+ catches and pick at least one wicket in a Test match. Root scored 325 runs, took 4 catches and picked up a wicket without conceding a run.

2 – Alastair Cook and Joe Root pair is now the 2nd England pair and 6th overall to record 2 century stands for the 2nd wicket in same Test.

4 – Alastair Cook and Joe Root remained unbeaten in 70s when Cook decided to declare the innings. This is the 4th instance where a team declared their innings with two batsmen at the crease are unbeaten at 70-99. Last such instance was in 1994.

5 – For the 5th consecutive time England has won the follow-up Test in a series after losing at Lord’s.

5.76 – England’s 2nd innings run rate in this game was 5.76, their 3rd highest in a 30+ overs innings in Test cricket. Overall, this is the 7th highest run rate in an innings which had minimum of 30 overs.

6 – Shan Masood faced James Anderson on 6 occasions in Test cricket and he got out to Anderson on all the 6 instances.

9 – 9 of Chris Woakes’ 34 Test wickets came in the first over of his new spell.

38 – Balls taken by Joe Root to score his fifty in 2nd innings. This is his joint fastest fifty in Test cricket. He took 38 balls for his fifty against India at Southampton in 2014.

55 – Balls taken by Alastair Cook to score his fifty in the 2nd innings, his fastest fifty in Test cricket. He took 56 balls for his fifty against India at Mohali in 2008.

291 – Wickets taken by James Anderson at home in Test cricket, most by any pacer. Anderson went past Glenn McGrath’s record of 289 Test wickets at home. Overall, only Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble picked up more Test wickets at home.

330 – England’s winning margin of 330 runs is their 2nd highest winning margin in terms of runs against Pakistan in Test cricket. This is the 4th highest margin of defeat in terms of runs against any opposition for Pakistan.

391 – Lead taken by England at end of first innings. This is the 4th highest lead taken by a team without enforcing follow-on.

565 – Target set by England for Pakistan in this game, the 2nd highest by England against Pakistan in Test cricket.
