England v Pakistan 4th Test, Day 3 – Statistical Highlights

Pakistan made sure they won’t allow England to make a comeback like in the previous Test as they gained a huge first innings lead thanks to a brilliant double ton from Younis Khan. Pakistan did not take any chances with the ball as they reduced the hosts to 88/4 at the end of Day 3. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the first three days play.

1 – Asad Shafiq’s century in the first innings was his first century in Tests while batting in top 4. His previous 8 tons came at No.6.

2 – Asad Shafiq is now only the 2nd Pakistani to score a century after recording a pair in Tests. Wazir Mohammad did it in 1958 vs West Indies.

2 – Younis Khan became only the 2nd player in history to score two double centuries in Tests with sixes. Mahale Jayawardene did it on three occasions. Younis brought up his double ton with a six at Harare vs Zimbabwe in 2013.

3 – Younis Khan now has 3 double centuries after turning 35. Only two players in the Test history have scored 3 double tons after turning 35 including Younis. Kumar Sangakkara is the other.

5.56 – Moeen Ali’s economy rate in the first innings is the 2nd worst for an England spinner in an innings in Tests. (Min: 20 overs) Worst is 5.85 by I Salisbury also vs Pakistan in 1992.

6 – Number of double centuries Younis Khan now has scored in Test cricket, joint most by a Pakistani player. Only 5 players have scored more double tons than Younis so far.

6 – Number of centuries scored by England’s No.6 or lower positioned batsmen in Tests in 2016. These are the most centuries scored by No.6 or lower players for a team in a calendar year.

8 – Number of times England’s innings started off with Alastair Cook facing Mohammad Amir in the series. Last time a team’s innings started similarly in all the games of a 4 or more match series was in ENG-IND 2014 series where all the 10 Indian innings started with Murali Vijay facing James Anderson.

30 – Younis Khan now has converted his last 30 scores of 90s into 100 in Test cricket. He broken the record for converting 90s into 100s most consecutive times, which was held by Don Bradman (29).

193 – Innings taken by Younis Khan for his 32nd Test century. Only Ricky Ponting (176) and Sachin Tendulkar (179) took fewer innings.

97.16 – Moeen Ali’s batting average of 97.16 at No.7 in Tests is the highest for any player at the spot. (Min: 500 runs)

2010 – Last time before this game, Pakistan took a 200+ lead in the first innings of Test outside Asia was in 2010 at Hobart against Australia.

2013 – Asad Shafiq and Younis scored centuries in Pakistan’s first innings. Last time two centuries were scored in a Test innings for Pakistan outside Asia was in 2013 vs South Africa at Cape Town.
