Although they lost the final ODI against Pakistan, England clinched a massive 4-1 series win with many of the players performing well. This leaves the England selectors with a selection headache of the good sort with the tour of India looming over the horizon. That said, we take a quick look at the player ratings for the England team in the recently concluded series.

Alex Hales – 7/10

The explosive England opener was perhaps one of the most impressive batsmen in the series in spite of not being one of the top 5 run-getters. His exploits included a massive 171 which saw England cross the 400-run mark for the first time in their history.

1. Jason Roy – 5.5/10

Yet another explosive opener, Jason Roy however, was largely subdued due to some impressive pace bowling from the Pakistanis. He managed 181 runs in the series including a half-century.

2. Joe Root – 7.5/10

Each time Joe Root goes out to bat, he is almost always expected to perform. Having played all five ODIs, Root smashed 274 runs at an average of 54. He smashed 2 half-centuries as he did. He was England’s highest run-getter in the series.

3. Jos Buttler – 7/10

Jos Buttler was perhaps the most impressive of the England batsmen. In spite of playing just the three ODIs, He remained unbeaten in both batting innings as he smashed 94 runs in total.

4. Eoin Morgan – 8.5/10

The England skipper impressed one and all with some impressive captaincy as well as some decent batting performances. He smashed 179 runs in the 5 matches he played at an average of 59.

5. Jonny Bairstow – 6/10

The hero of the Test series against Sri Lanka, Jonny Bairstow played just the final few ODIs of the Pakistan series where he came in for Jos Buttler. Needless to say, he managed a handful of runs.

6. Ben Stokes – 6.5/10

Ben Stokes has been plagued by injuries since his much-anticipated return to arms in recent times. However, his amazing batting skills saw him net 201 runs as well as a wicket in the series.

7. Moeen Ali – 5/10

England’s premier spinner Moeen Ali was clearly fatigued when he took the ball in the ODI series. He played four of the five matches, failing to make an impact with both bat and ball. With 3 wickets to his name, he will be hoping to keep his place ahead of Adil Rashid.

8. Chris Woakes – 8/10

Woakes was the most impressive bowler for England by a country mile. He topped the wicket-taking charts with 9 wickets to his name and proved to be supremely economical.

9. Mark Wood – 7.5/10

Making a comeback into the side, Mark Wood bowled with fearsome pace and grit. In spite of not picking up as many wickets as he could, Wood impressed with some pace and 7 wickets in the series.

10. Liam Plunkett – 6.5/10

The self-proclaimed leader of the pace attack and the self-proclaimed fastest bowler in England had little to show in the wicket’s column with just the five wickets in as many matches.

11. Adil Rashid – 5/10

Similar to Plunkett, Adil Rashid had little to do as Eoin Morgan chose not to bowl him for longer spells in the series. However, Rashid impressed with what little he was able to get with 8 wickets to his name.

12. Chris Jordan – 4.5/10

The 27-year old impressed with some great bowling prowess. However, he played just the two matches and picked up just the two wickets as he did.

13. David Willey – 4/10

Having been initially ruled out with an injury, Willey found himself in the squad. However, fatigue played its part as Willey found himself playing just the two matches and going wicketless as he did.

14. Liam Dawson – 2/10

The left-arm spinner played just the one match in the series, picking up just the two wickets as he did.
