After bowling out South Africa for 361 to bag a 97-run first innings lead, England extended it to 217 with 9 wickets in hand as Alastair Cook scored an unbeaten 59 on the 3rd day to push the home side to 119/1. Earlier South Africa added 147 runs to their overnight score of 214/5 with Quinton de Kock and Vernon Philander scoring fifties along with the lower order.

3 – Moeen Ali became the 3rd spinner to take a 4-wicket haul and score a fifty-plus in the same Test match at Lord’s. The previous two players are Vinoo Mankad for India against England in 1952 and Ray Illingworth for England against New Zealand in 1969.
7 – Number of oppositions against which Alastair Cook has scored 1000 runs in Test cricket; joint most by any player. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have also scored 1000 Test runs against 7 different teams.
15 – Number of fifty-plus scores for Alastair Cook at Lord’s in Test cricket; the most by any player. Ian Bell has scored 12 fifty-plus scores at Lord’s in Tests.
36 – Balls Quinton de Kock needed to score his fifty; the 2nd fastest fifty in Test cricket at Lord’s. Kapil Dev scored fifty off 35 balls against England in 1982.
36 – Quinton de Kock’s 36-ball fifty is the 5th fastest known fifty in Test cricket for South Africa. Dale Steyn’s 26-ball fifty (vs West Indies in 2014/15) is the only one among the top 4 in the last 10 years.
42 – Number of fifty-plus scores in Test cricket on England soil for Alastair Cook; the most by any player. Cook went past Graham Gooch’s 41 fifty-plus scores in the Tests hosted by England.
2009 – The last spinner before Moeen Ali to take 4-wicket haul and score 50+ in a Test match for England was Graeme Swann who also did so against South Africa at Centurion in 2009.
2010 – Saeed Ajmal was the last spin bowler before Moeen to take 4-wicket haul and score 50+ in a Test match on England soil. Ajmal did it against the English team at Birmingham in 2010.
