11 – Number of consecutive Tests in which Joe Root has scored at least one fifty-plus score; it is the most by any England player as he went past John Edrich who had a 10-match streak. Overall, he is one of the six players to have scored fifties in 11 or more consecutive Test matches.
15 – Mark Stoneman is Alastair Cook’s 15th opening partner in Test cricket. Only five players have had more opening partners than Cook in this format.
50 – This match is the 50th Test played at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. It is the 6th venue in England and 15th overall to host over 50 Tests.
153* – Cook’s 153 are the 2nd most runs he has scored on the opening day of a Test match. He scored an unbeaten 158 against Bangladesh on the first day of Chittagong Test in 2010.
248 – Cook and Joe Root pair’s 248-run stand for the 3rd wicket is the highest partnership for any wicket in the five day/night Test matches played so far. Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam’s 215-run stand against West Indies last year is the only other double century stand in D/N Tests.
5973 – Runs Alastair Cook has aggregated in Test cricket in England; the most for any player in England in this format. He surpassed Graham Gooch, who scored 5917 runs in Tests in England.
