With the T20I series being done and dusted, India and England are set to face each other for a three-match ODI series starting July 12. The Indian side will be led by Rohit Sharma as the Men in Blue will be geared up to continue their winning form in the ODI series. On the other hand, the English side will be led by newly-appointed skipper Jos Buttler.
As for the hosts England, their last ODI assignment was against the Netherlands where they won by 3-0 and even broke their own record for the highest ODI total. England posted a total of 498 runs in the first game of the three-match series and defeated the opposition by 232 runs. They carried the same momentum in the next two games and whitewashed the series to win it 3-0.
India, on the other hand, has played two ODI series this year so far. Their first assignment was against South Africa which they lost terribly as the hosts thrashed the Men in Blue to a 3-0 defeat. The Indian team then faced the Caribbean Side at home and bagged a magnificent 3-0 victory. West Indies put up a good fight, but could not withstand India.
Both India and England have strong squads for the upcoming ODI series and it will be a contest worth watching. While the English squad will see the in-form players Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root get back to action after their terrific performances in the Test match, the Indian side will see players like Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammad Siraj, and Mohammed Shami make a return.
Pitch Conditions
The Kennington Oval field is typically flat, and games there frequently end in high-scoring thrillers. At this venue, the spinners may just have to play a bigger role because the ground may wear out as the game goes on. While pacers might gain some initial traction from the pitch, batters can trust the bounce and play their shots.
