India’s series winning streak has been breached by the world No.1 ODI side England who bounced back after a thumping defeat in the first ODI to win the series 2-1. India came into the game with as many as three changes but the middle-order once again failed to score big after the top didn’t get any big runs. They finished with 256/8 on what looked like a slow surface but was easily chased down by the hosts. Joe Root with yet another century took his team to an 8-wicket win along with the skipper Eoin Morgan who scored an unbeaten 88.

3 – Joe Root is the 3rd England batsman to score multiple centuries in a 3-match ODI series. Graham Gooch in 1985 against Australia and Nick Knight in 1996 against England score two centuries apiece in the Texaco Trophy at home.
5 – This series was England’s first series win in five bilateral ODI series against India since winning the 2011 5-match home series by 3-0. India defeated England at home 5-0 in 2011, 3-2 in 2013 and 2-1 in 2017. They also defeated England in England by 3-1 in 2014. This was also the 5th consecutive ODI win for England in Leeds.
8 – This was India’s first bilateral ODI series defeat under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. India won both the series in which he was captain in the absence of MS Dhoni in 2013-2014 and won all the six bilateral series he led India since becoming the skipper in all formats.

9 – This series defeat brought an end to India’s streak of nine consecutive bilateral ODI series wins. India’s last bilateral ODI series defeat came at the start of 2016 in Australia. This was also the 8th consecutive bilateral ODI series win (More than one game) for England since losing 2-1 to India at the start of 2017.
13 – Joe Root now holds the record for most number of centuries in ODI format for England. He surpassed Marcus Trescothick’s tally of 12 ODI tons which he equalled in the last match.
186* – The unbeaten 186-run stand between Eoin Morgan and Joe Root pair is England’s highest partnership for any wicket in ODI cricket against India. Their previous highest partnership against India was 185 between Nasser Hussain and Marcus Trescothick in the 2002 NatWest Final for the 2nd wicket.
2244 – Partnership runs between Eoin Morgan and Joe Root pair in ODI cricket. They are the leading pair in this format for England surpassing Ian Bell and Alastair Cook’s 2118 runs.
3000 – Both Virat Kohli and Eoin Morgan completed 3000 runs as captain in the ODI format during this game. Kohli became the quickest to reach the milestone taking just 49 innings while Morgan, in 80 innings, became the 5th fastest.
