While India dominated Day 1 of the first Test against England, the second day saw an exciting contest between the bat and the ball. Resuming at their overnight score of 21/0, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul showcased remarkable resilience and tackle the red cherry with precision. The challenging deliveries were respected while the loose ones were dispatched for boundaries. The duo added 97 runs for the first wicket and India seemed firmly on command.
However, England pacers bounced back as India lost four wickets inside 15 runs. While Ollie Robinson got the better of Rohit, James Anderson dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in consecutive deliveries. Worsening the case for the visiting team, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane got run-out. Just when things seemed to spice up, rain came into the picture and the play was abandoned.
India were 125/4 at stumps on Day 2, 58 runs behind England’s first-innings total of 183 runs. KL Rahul (57) and Rishabh Pant (7) are the two batters at the crease and they have a job in hand. Considering the current scorecard, Virat Kohli’s men are still in a better position. However, the pitch has been assisting pacers regularly and a couple of quick wickets can see the momentum shifting towards England.
