Rishabh Pant slammed his maiden century in ODIs while Hardik Pandya registered his career-best bowling figures of 4/24 as India defeated England by five wickets in the third and final ODI to win the series by a 2-1 margin. Pant hammered an unbeaten 125 off 113 which included 16 fours and two sixes to help India in chasing down the target of 260 in just 42.1 overs. Hardik also scored 71 off 55 with ten fours as he and wicketkeeper-batter Pant also shared a 133-run partnership for the fifth wicket after the visitors found themselves in trouble at 72/4.

Speaking about how the series decider went by, skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. Mohammed Siraj, who replaced the injured Jasprit Bumrah, made early inroads by dismissing both Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root back for ducks. Jason Roy made 41 off 31 with seven fours before falling prey to Hardik. All-rounders Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali amassed 27 and 34 runs respectively with captain Jos Buttler registering a half-century, the only one for England in the series.

Liam Livingstone played a quickfire cameo of 27 off 31 with two fours and as many maximums while Craig Overton’s 32 runs helped the English side in reaching a total of 259 in 45.5 overs. Hardik bowled seven overs which also included three maidens. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was also amongst the wickets with his spell of 3/60 in 9.5 overs.

Chasing 260, Reece Topley again dismantled India’s top order with the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli. All the three batters got dismissed for below 20 runs with India struggling at 38/3 in 8.1 overs. Suryakumar Yadav made only 16 but Pant and Hardik took the game away from the hosts.  The dashing Pant looked in a hurry and tonked all the bowlers around the park with his scintillating knock which also won him the Player-of-the-Match award.
