England vs India: A number of empty stands on the first two days of the Edgbaston Test match is a possibility
The first Test has up to 10,000 unsold tickets so far.
All the cricketing fans, former cricketers from both the sides and especially the players are filled with loads of excitement before the start of the five-match Test series, between two quality sides, England and India. The Virat Kohli-led Indian team will be taking on the England side in their own backyard, starting with the first Test match scheduled from August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The first Test match is also a memorable moment in the England Test cricket history as it will be their 1000th Test encounter. However, the major concern coming before the thrilling contest is the possibility of vacant stands for the first two days of the 1st Test match could act as a hindrance in the historic Test match.
A total of 10,000 tickets went unsold for 1st and 2nd days of the Edgbaston Test
As per the latest trends, it has been learned that up to 10,000 tickets went unsold for the first and second day of the first Test match at Edgbaston. Also, according to reports in British newspapers like The Telegraph and The Guardian, the stands are not likely to support a full house of spectators for the first two days of the first Test match. However, the tickets for Day 3 have been sold out, which is a positive news.
The fourth day of the Test match is also receiving a positive response from the fans in Birmingham, as the day is also known as the party day in Edgbaston, where the spectators will be encouraged to come out in fancy outfits. According to the reports, the English County Chief Executives mentioned that the busy and packed schedule of the five-match series has been the reason for the low ticket sales. It has always been seen as a trend in England, that the Test match generally starts from Thursday, which helps the fans to work out the time in accordance with the Test match. But the schedule of the England-India Test series has been prepared in a cramped manner, to give the visitors some off-time before the start of the Asia Cup in September.
“We have been impacted by the Wednesday start and this series will throw up the whole debate about the regularity of scheduling. Overall we will do around 70,000 tickets altogether. It is just days one and two that sales are not what we would normally expect,” said Neil Snowball who is the Chief Executive of Edgbaston, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.
