Ben Stokes, the English all-round cricketer, is in the middle of a turbulent phase of his cricketing career. Last year in September, he got himself tangled in a brawl outside a nightclub after which he was provisionally banned by the England Cricket Board (ECB). Subsequently, the 27-year old didn’t take part in the Ashes against arch-rivals Australia despite being named in the initial squad.
However, he made a comeback to the team during England’s tour of New Zealand. Thereafter, Stokes also represented the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Recently, he played the opening Test against India in Birmingham but missed the second Test at Lord’s owing to trials surrounding last year’s case. He is now set to miss the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham as per reports in The Telegraph.
The tumultuous times for Stokes
Stokes’ trial for affray at Bristol Crown Court isn’t expected to end before Wednesday and the Brits are likely to announce their squad for the third Test 24 hours prior to the conclusion of the same. As soon as his trial concludes, his cricket discipline process will take place within 48 hours. The verdict on the case is expected to come forth within a week’s time and the decision will have to be ratified by the ECB.
The third Test is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 22 and the Three Lions would be keen to wrap the series up with another victory. Joe Root and Co slipped through a narrow escape at Edgbaston and won by 31 runs after the visitors got them by the scruff of their necks.
Ben Stokes played an important role in the match as he chipped in with a couple of crucial wickets in the first innings followed by his four-wicket-haul in the second. In the meantime, the Canterbury-born player would be desperate to hit the cricket pitch and join the national team at the earliest.
