Young Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav is making some serious progress at the highest level. In a very short span of time, he has become an integral part of the Indian team in the limited overs cricket. Team India has always been under the pump whilst playing outside the Asian subcontinent. They have been guilty of underperforming overseas. On most occasions, it has been their bowling that has let them down.
However, now the things seem to have changed. With two wrist spinners in the form of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian team is dominating the oppositions irrespective of the venues and the conditions. Kuldeep and Chahal wreaked havoc in South Africa in the ODI series earlier this year. And now, they have made an impressive start in England.
Kuldeep Yadav, in particular, has already made a serious impact on the tour. He scalped a five wicket haul in the first T20I of the tour. Now, after the conclusion of the T20I series, the action has moved to the ODI series. Yet again, in the first ODI, the English batting lineup crashed against Kuldeep’s bowling. English openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were going great guns as they added 73 runs for the first wicket in the match.
Kuldeep was introduced in to the attack and he sent Roy packing soon. He backed it up with the big wicket of Joe Root. The in-form batter Jonny Bairstow was also dismissed by Kuldeep. Bairstow’s wicket had more to do with Kuldeep’s confidence. The action perspired in the 13th over.
Kuldeep bowled a wrong ‘un and Bairstow failed to pick it. He was hit on the back pad and the Indians appealed. The umpire, Ruchira Palliyaguruge, turned down the appeal. A very confident Kuldeep persuaded Virat Kohli to take the review. The replays suggested the ball would have hit the stumps and the umpire had to overturn his decision. Bairstow was dismissed on 35.
