English cricketer Danielle Wyatt on Saturday, August 18, praised Rishabh Pant as the 20-year-old made his Test debut for India at Trent Bridge. Pant came in the place of Dinesh Karthik who injured his finger as well as was out of form in the earlier two Tests. Pant became the 291st Test cap for India and was set to bat at No. 6 for the visitors in the third Test.
The Delhi wicketkeeper, who has played four T20Is for India and is known to be a hard-hitting batsman, was included in India’s 18-member squad for England since Wriddhiman Saha was injured. The clamour for his inclusion in the playing XI grew after Karthik failed to deliver with the bat (21 runs in four innings). Former players including ex-captain Sunil Gavaskar backed Pant’s selection in the team.
Wyatt, who consistently talks about various cricketing incidents and has been indulged in the England vs India series was asked by a Twitter user for her opinion on the inclusion of Pant. “Well deserved. Great batsman,” was Wyatt’s reply. She has played 61 ODIs and 83 T20Is for England, has two international hundreds. The 27-year-old opening batswoman is currently playing for Southern Vipers in the Kia Super League in England.
Well deserved. Great batsman 🙌🏼
