England vs India: Graeme Swann desperately wants one player to play Test cricket
He also mentioned that Kohli would be keen to step up after a disappointing campaign last time.
The Indian team is scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England from the first week of August. The opening Test will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on August 1. Previously, the Men in Blue thumped their rivals by 2-1 in the T20I series, however, slumped to a defeat by the same margin in the 50-overs format. Meanwhile, a number of Indian players stood out, Kuldeep Yadav is one of them.
At Old Trafford in Manchester, he became the first left-arm spinner to notch a five-wicket haul in T20I cricket. He couldn’t quite perform in the next match and was benched for the third encounter in Bristol. Nevertheless, he ripped apart the English lineup in the first ODI at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The tweaker picked up a six-wicket haul and became the first left-armer to accomplish the same.
He could be a massive bowler
In the meantime, former English cricketer Graeme Swann believes that Yadav should definitely play the test matches. “If I was an Indian, I would desperately want him to play in the Tests because he does provide mystery and the English batsmen cannot pick his googly. He also bowls a good length and went for just 20-odd on a beautiful batting wicket at Nottingham.
He doesn’t give the batsmen enough opportunity to see the ball off pitch, and can hit a perfect length and pace. If India use him wisely, he could be a massive bowler for them this summer, particularly if it continues to stay dry,” Swann was quoted as saying by India Today.
The retired off-break bowler also spoke about Virat Kohli and mentioned that he would be keen to step up after a disappointing campaign last time around in 2014. “He is probably embarrassed by the last tour here because he is such a good player and that was not the Virat Kohli we know. He probably wants to right that wrong. And it is in his favour at the moment because the ball is not swinging,” he added.
