India recently lost the ODI series against England even after taking a 1-0 lead in the series with their triumph at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The contests at Lord’s and Headingley turned out to be one-sided affairs. The team now has a stern test ahead of them as they cross swords with the Brits in the five-match Test series which begins on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Prior to that Virat Kohli’s men are scheduled to play a four-day practice match against Essex at County Ground in Chelmsford. The One Day fixtures got over on July 17 and ever since the cricketers have been spending quality times with the spouses and girlfriends. They have also been active on the social media platforms, posting pictures of their affinity, either on Twitter and Instagram.
We’ve had four days of rest
However, they now need to park their personal lives aside, at least for the next one month. Following the first Test, the next two contests will be played at Lord’s and Trent Bridge respectively and the team management has asked its players to devote their time to playing cricket. The squad for the first three matches was recently announced.
“We’ve had four days of rest before settling down for the serious task ahead. The players had moved out with spouses, friends, and relatives and on Monday we will leave for Chelmsford,” a source close to the team was quoted as saying by The Mumbai Mirror.
The final two matches will be played at The Rose Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively. Last time around in 2014, the Indian team, captained by MS Dhoni, was beaten black and blue by a margin of 1-3. They won the second Test at Lord’s, however, slumped to three consecutive defeats thereafter. The team would definitely want to make amends this time around.
