England and India are all set to lock horns in what is expected to be gruelling five-match Test series. The first Test in Birmingham will commence on Wednesday and the former cricketers from both the countries have donned the predictor’s hat over the last few days. This time Michael Vaughan has come out with his predictions and he has also named the possible top performers from both the teams.
The series is indeed going to be exciting as the conditions will pose different challenges in front of the teams during the five Tests crammed in six weeks. There will also be injuries especially to the fast bowlers and the bench strength of India and England will be tested.
Meanwhile, Vaughan has been in the news ever since Adil Rashid was named in England squad for the first Test. He termed the decision of his selection as ‘ridiculous’ while the leggie hit back at him calling his opinions as ‘stupid’.
What did he predict?
Michael Vaughan posted a video of his series prediction on Instagram today and he feels that the hosts will pip India once again by 3-1. He also believed that England doesn’t often lose five-match series at home and should be able to continue their winning record.
“Weather is going to be fine over the next few weeks. Indian fans aren’t going to like this but England will win this series by 3-1. You don’t see England lose that many five-Test series in English conditions,” he said.
Interestingly, Vaughan also went on to say that Stuart Broad and Joe Root will shine for the home side during the course of the series. However, he backed Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma to be the leading run-getter and the wicket-taker respectively for the visitors.
“Leading wicket-taker for England would be Stuart Broad. He found form in the Test match against Pakistan at Headingley. Joe Root showed great form in the One-Day series and should continue in the same vein. For India, I will go with Ishant Sharma who will pick wickets for them and Ajinkya Rahane to be the leading run-scorer,’ he further added.
