England vs India: MS Dhoni set to join the Indian legends in an elite club
Dhoni has 297 catches in the ODIs.
The much-awaited One-Day International series between India and England will commence on Thursday at the Trent Bridge. The fans are expecting the series to be high-scoring and given the batting might of both the sides, records are set to tumble during the course of three ODIs. However, MS Dhoni is almost certain to enter an elite club and join the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
Dhoni is all set to add another feather to his cap as he is only 33 runs away from becoming only the 12th cricketer ever to cross 10000 runs in the ODI format. He will also be only the fourth Indian to achieve the incredible feat and he might reach the landmark in the first game itself if he gets time in the middle to show his prowess with the willow. The veteran has so far scored 9967 runs in 318 matches at an unbelievable average of 51.37 and has smashed 67 half-centuries to go with 10 tons.
Sachin Tendulkar is undoubtedly at the top of the charts in this case with 18426 runs as the legendary list follows him later. Ganguly hung his boots after scoring 11363 runs in the format while Dravid missed the 11000-mark as he bid adieu to the game with 10889 runs.
Another record in sight for Dhoni?
While MS Dhoni is almost sure of crossing the much famed 10000-run mark in ODIs, he can also become only the fourth wicketkeeper to complete 300 catches in the 50-overs format. The likes of Adam Gilchrist (417), Mark Boucher (402) and Kumar Sangakkara (383) are leading him. Dhoni needs only 3 catches to reach the landmark and it is very much likely to do it in this series.
As far as the stumpings, the master behind the wickets, is leading with 107 dismissals. He is the only wicketkeeper with more than 100 stumpings as Sangakkara is second in the list.
Now it remains to seen if he will be able to claim both the records on offer in the upcoming series and give his fans more opportunities to gush over his illustrious career.
