Team India is fretting over the fitness of their skipper Virat Kohli after he suffered a lower back injury in Lord’s Test. They are currently 0-2 down in the five-match series and are facing a whole lot of problems ahead of the do or die game at Trent Bridge. But the things seem to fall in place slowly for the visitors as Ravi Ashwin has been deemed fit for the next game after Jasprit Bumrah was earlier was given a go-ahead by the medical team.
Ashwin was hit on the finger multiple times while batting in the second innings at Lord’s on the fourth day of the Test. The ball used to rear up from the good length area and was hit on the right hand of the batsman twice. On both the occasions, the off-spinner was seen grimacing in pain and the physio had to treat him. There were concerns over him playing the third Test at the Trent Bridge.
According to the reports in The Guardian, the medical team has cleared Ravi Ashwin to feature in the next Test in Nottingham. His presence for the team in the line-up is extremely crucial after the way he batted in testing conditions at the Home of Cricket. He was the best batsman for India in terms of runs scored and his all-round abilities will be important for the visitors.
Will Kohli be fit?
Virat Kohli looked confident about him getting fit in time for the third Test. But there are still questions over his availability and if he is ruled out of the game, then it remains to be seen how the fragile batting order cope up. The Indian captain is the highest run-getter of the series so far with 240 runs in 4 innings and Jonny Bairstow is the next with 193 runs to his name.
Kohli’s presence in the batting order is of prime importance for the line-up which has crossed 250 only twice in last 10 innings overseas and that too when he has scored 153 and 149.
