Reactions are pouring in from former cricketers and fans following India’s massive defeat at the hands of England at Lord’s. Former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar, too, is no exception though he also made it a point to praise their bowlers for their performance. India failed to put up a resistance against England seamers at the Mecca of cricket, losing 20 wickets in just over 82 overs to lose by an innings and 159 runs.

The win meant England now have a 9-1 lead over India in the last 11 Tests played on their soil. At Lord’s, the English pacers were so dominant that the hosts did not even require the services of the leg-spinner in their ranks – Adil Rashid. India also lost the first Test at Edgbaston by 31 runs and trail the five-match series 0-2 at the moment.

Sachin Tendulkar came up with a tweet after the game, heaping praise on English seamers James Anderson, Stuart Broad and the Man of the Match Chris Woakes who excelled with both bat and ball. The former ace batsman also had a note for the visitors to better their chances in the series.

“An all-round performance by England. Excellent spells of fast bowling by @jimmy9 and @StuartBroad8, with a fine performance by @chriswoakes. We’ve got to pull up our socks and produce better cricket India. #ENGvIND,” the 45-year-old wrote on Twitter.

While Anderson took nine wickets in the game for just 43 runs, Broad chipped in with five while Woakes, who hit an unbeaten ton, also took four wickets. The conditions favoured them but they had to exploit those by pitching the ball in the right areas as well. Their catching was also brilliant compared to Edgbaston Test where dropped catches had almost cost them the game.

The third game of the series – a do or die for India – will be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham from August 18.
