Rohit Sharma has carved a reputation for being one India’s most reliable batsmen in limited-overs cricket. He is the only batsman in ODIs to have scored as many three double centuries. Even in the T20I format, the right-hander has three tons, which is the joint-highest with Colin Munro, New Zealand’s opening batsman. He scored his third ton against England at the County Ground, Bristol in the series decider.

His unbeaten knock of 100 runs from 56 balls also ensured that India romp past the finishing line with seven wickets in hand. He lost Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul as partners early in the innings, but he didn’t lose his composure. Rather, he stitched together a match-winning stand with skipper Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly reckons that it’s difficult to stop Rohit from performing in crunch games.

“Rohit’s innings was fluent and flawless”- Ganguly

“I had told you in Cardiff that a big knock from Rohit Sharma was just around the corner. He is a big player and can’t be away from a big score for too long. Today when the team needed him the most to win the match, he played a gem of a knock,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India TV.

“Rohit’s innings was fluent and flawless. This is his third hundred in this format, that’s something even Virat Kohli doesn’t have. This shows what kind of an impact Rohit has on this team, especially in limited-overs cricket,” the former cricketer added.

Rohit was also the leading run-scorer in the three-match series with 137 runs at an average of 68.50. He will next play the ODI series against the Brits, which starts on July 12 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Rohit’s role will be crucial as the Men in Blue will want to win back to back series’ in their campaign.
