India are currently scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England, which starts on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Previously, the Men in Blue played a T20I and an ODI series against the Brits. While Virat Kohli’s men emerged triumphant in the 20-overs format, they slumped to a 2-1 defeat in the ODI matches.

Prior to that, the visiting team also played Ireland in a couple of T20I contests. Their batsmen played a major role in the limited-overs series. The likes of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli scored the chunk of the runs. However, red-ball cricket is a different ballgame altogether and Kohli’s troops are expected to be in for a stern test.

India have got a big chance

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer, mentioned that their batsmen will have to perform with the willow in order for India to win the series. ”You have to score 400 runs in an innings in Test cricket in order to be competitive.

If they get 400 runs in the first innings, they will win. India will have a chance. They are a good side, if they bat well, they will do well in England. They can win the test series. India have got a big chance of winning,” Ganguly was quoted saying by the reporters at the Eden Gardens.

The retired cricketer also talked about MS Dhoni’s poor run of form. The wicketkeeper-batsman showed prime form in the Indian Premier League, however, couldn’t replicate his touch in the limited-overs fixtures against the Brits. The veteran was also booed by the crowd at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium.

Virat Kohli, in the post-match presentation ceremony, slammed the supporters for their insensitive behaviour and defended the experienced campaigner. Ganguly also sounded confident on his return to form in India’s upcoming ODI and T20I encounters. “I am sure he will get back to scoring runs. Whatever he does, it’s his decision,” he concluded.
