England vs India: Stuart Broad reveals his plan to scalp Virat Kohli early
He also showered praises on the Indian captain as he has improved a lot since the forgettable 2014 tour.
After an exciting ODI series, the focus shifts to the traditional format of the game as England and India will lock horns in the gruelling five-match Test series. The visitors have struggled in whites in the country historically and are keen to improve their record. However, the onus will be on their skipper Virat Kohli who is in great form with the bat. But England’s pace bowler Stuart Broad is determined to get him early in his innings and has revealed the plan for the same as well.
The mind games have begun with the contest only 12 days away and both the teams are expecting to dominate each other in the due course. Last time, Kohli visited the country, he endured an extremely lean series with James Anderson getting the better of him outside the off-stump. Four years down the line, he is one of the best Test players going around and will be eager to prove himself in the upcoming series after plundering runs elsewhere.
What is Broad’s plan?
Virat Kohli piled on the agony for England during their tour to India in 2016 and he remains a constant threat for them in the series commencing on August 1. Stuart Broad feels that they can put the pressure on the visitors if they will be able to get their skipper. He has chalked out a plan to dismiss him early in his innings and not to let him score heavily.
“‘I will probably lean away from him being an lbw candidate early because that gets him going and once he gets in his conversion-rate is fantastic. We’ll look at footage from 2014 when we really limited the amount of runs he got,” he was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
However, he also cautioned is bowlers from bowling into his pads as Kohli’s wristy flicks tend to earn him a lot of runs and has been one of the hallmarks of his exceptional technique. “He’s got runs in Australia and South Africa and scored a lot against us in India. You’ve got to stay away from his pads early which sounds ridiculous, but it is like Jonathan Trott. People said to go to his pads early, then suddenly he had hit 20 balls and he’s in,” the 32-year-old added.
