England vs India Weather Forecast for Day 2, 3rd Test: Leeds Weather on August 26
Will rain play a part?
While Team India were on a roll in the first two Tests, England made a stunning bounce back in the third game at the Headingly in Leeds. After bundling the visitors out for mere 78 runs in the first innings, the Three Lions batted exceptionally well and ended Day 1 at 120/0. This means England have already gained a 42-run lead and their victory seems a mere formality.
It has to be noted that the home team was under the pump heading into this game. After all, they suffered a humiliating 151-run defeat in the second Test at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium. With India having a 1-0 lead, many backed them to extend their sensational run. However, Joe Root’s men turned their fortunes in Leeds by outplaying the visitors on the first day.
As far as the happenings of the match are concerned, Virat Kohli finally won the toss and elected to bat at the Headingly track. The decision, however, didn’t prove to be fruitful by any means and India lost wickets at regular intervals. In fact, nine of the visiting team’s 11 batters couldn’t even touch the five-run mark. Rohit Sharma (19) and Ajinkya Rahane (18) were the only ones to get into double figures.
For England, veteran pacer James Anderson was the wrecker-in-chief, having scalped the first three wickets. Craig Overton also dismissed three batters while Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson got two wickets in their kitty. As a result, India were restricted to mere 78 runs. With Team India putting up a horrendous batting show, England’s top-order was also expected to face trouble.
Contrary to the expectations, English openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed didn’t face much trouble. In fact, both batters brilliantly tackled the red cherry and scored half-centuries by the end of the day’s play. Subsequently, England earned a lead of 42 runs by stumps and the visitors need nothing less than a jaw-dropping effort to make a comeback.
