England vs New Zealand, 2nd Test Stats Preview: Players records and approaching milestones
James Anderson needs just four scalps to complete the milestone of 650 Test wickets.
Joe Root’s magnificent century helped England take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. Classy Root made sure that the English side began their new era under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum in style. The second match of the series begins on June 10, 2022, at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, with the Kiwis searching for a win to level the series.
The inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) winners are suffering a slump in their form since that glory in the ultimate Test against India last year. The Kiwis have played seven Test matches after the WTC title and have won only two. They have lost four games and one clash ended up in a draw. Captain Kane Williamson’s poor form in England will be a worrisome factor for the visitors going into the second game.
Pacer Kyle Jamieson was superb throughout the match at Lord’s while Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell also looked solid with the bat. Experienced campaigners Tom Latham and Williamson will have to come good for the tourists as they look to keep the series alive.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme has been ruled out of the series due to injury and a fit Henry Nicholls might take his place. The hosts have declared the same playing XI from the last match with Matthew Parkinson, who replaced Jack Leach as the concussion substitute at Lord’s, making way for the latter.
Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers ahead of the 2nd Test between England and New Zealand:
