England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 5-match ODI series against Pakistan as they cruised to a record chase in the Bristol ODI. Despite the fall of wickets early on, Pakistan kept the runs flowing on a flat Bristol deck with short boundaries. Opener Imam-ul-Haq scored a 131-ball 151 with 17 boundaries to power Pakistan to 358/9. Jonny Bairstow’s 93-ball 128 and Jason Roy’s 76 off 55 at the top helped England bring down the required rate under six by halfway stage. The middle-order ensured that the hosts completed the chase with 31 balls to spare.

All the major stats and numbers recorded during the high-scoring game between England and Pakistan:

A record chase by the hosts:

359 – The 359-run chase is now the joint 5th highest in ODI cricket and the 2nd highest for England. Their highest chase of 361 was against Windies earlier this year. This is also the highest successful ODI chase by any team against Pakistan surpassing 330 by India during the 2012 Asia Cup.

359 – England’s 359-run chase is the highest successful chase in ODI cricket by any team that elected to bowl first. The previous highest is 351 by India against Australia in 2013 Nagpur ODI and against England in 2017 Pune ODI.

15 – England have won each of their last 15 ODI chases at home; a streak that began in 2016. This is the 2nd longest such streak for any team behind 18 successive ODI chases at home by Windies between 1983 and 1990. England went past India’s 14 consecutive home ODI chases between 2010 and 2011.

Tough times for Pakistan:

2 – Pakistan became the 2nd team to post 350+ in consecutive ODI matches and end up on the losing side. England was the first to bag this embarrassing record when they toured India in 2017.

9 – Pakistan has failed to win even one of their last nine ODI matches; their 2nd longest winless streak in this format. They lost ten in a row during 1987-1988 and lost nine in a row between 2009 and 2010.

358/9 – Pakistan lost an ODI for the first time after posting a first innings score in excess of 330. Their previous highest first innings score in an ODI defeat was 329/6 in the 2012 Asia Cup game against India.

358/9 – The total of 358/9 by Pakistan is also the 2nd highest by them in an ODI defeat. Their total of 361/7 in the previous ODI is the highest in an ODI loss and also their first ever 350+ total in an ODI defeat.

A record knock by Imam:

27 – Innings Imam-ul-Haq needed to score his 6th century in the ODI format; the fewest by any player. He bettered the Upul Tharanga’s feat who scored his 6th ODI ton in 29 innings.

151 – The 151-run knock by Imam-ul-Haq is now the highest individual ODI score for Pakistan player against England and also in England. Fakhar Zaman’s 138 in the Southampton ODI was the previous highest individual ODI score for Pakistan in England and also against England.

151 – Imam became the first Pakistan player to score a 150+ in an ODI defeat. Saeed Anwar’s 140-run knock during the 1998 Independence Cup Final against India was the previous highest score for Pakistan in an ODI defeat.

23y 153d – At the age of 23 years and 153 days, Imam became the youngest Pakistan player and the 6th youngest overall to score a 150+ in ODI cricket. Imran Nazir was the youngest Pakistan player to score an ODI 150+ before him, as he was 25y 95d old when he scored 160 against Zimbabwe in 2007 World Cup.

Bairstow’s rampage:

74Jonny Bairstow brought up his century in 74 deliveries; his 4th fastest century in ODI cricket. He is one of the six players to have completed four or more ODI centuries in less than 75 balls. AB de Villiers (8), Jos Buttler (6) and Sanath Jayasuriya (5) are ahead of Bairstow in this list while Shahid Afridi and Virender Sehwag also have four such tons apiece.

Morgan on top of England’s list:

198 – Eoin Morgan is now the most capped ODI player for England as the Bristol ODI was his 198th appearance in national colours in the 50-overs format. He thus surpassed Paul Collingwood who represented the England team in 197 ODIs.

A perfect start in a big chase:

9.09 – The 159-run partnership between Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow came at a run rate of 9.09; the highest in a 150+ opening stand in ODIs. Brendon McCullum and Jessy Ryder shared an unbeaten 165-run stand against England in the 2008 Hamilton ODI which came at a RR of 9.08.
