England vs Pakistan, 2020: 2nd Test, Day 2 – Rizwan’s fifty, Shaheen's long duck and more stats
Here are all the statistical highlights from yet another rain marred day's play in the Southampton Test match.
Not often does a team electing to bat first find themselves in a commanding position even if they are batting after the first two days of the match. However, Pakistan are in such a rare situation during the ongoing Southampton Test, thanks to rain and bad light which have allowed only 86 overs of play to take place out of the possible 180 overs during the first two days. After Babar Azam got out scoring 47 on the second day, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan took the responsibility of the Pakistan innings by batting with the lower order. He scored an unbeaten 60 from 111 balls as Pakistan went to stumps at 223/9, adding 97 runs to their overnight total of 126/5.
Here are all the statistical highlights from yet another rain marred day’s play in the Southampton Test match:
A rare fifty by Pakistan keeper:
2012 – Mohammad Rizwan is now the first Pakistan wicketkeeper with a 50+ score in Test cricket against England since Adnan Akmal (61) during the Dubai Test in January 2012. Rizwan is also the first Pakistan keeper to score a Test fifty on England soil since Zulqarnain Haider (88) during the 2010 Birmingham Test.
Broad’s record breaking season:
7 – Stuart Broad has picked up three wickets in each of the seven innings he bowled in Test cricket in the ongoing 2020 home season. Broad is now the first England player since Graeme Swann (in 2009) to pick 3-wicket hauls in seven successive Test innings. Swann took three or more wickets in all five innings he bowled during the Test series in West Indies (Feb-Mar, 2009) and took three wickets each during England’s first home Test of the 2009 season. Stuart Broad, in fact, claimed 3+ wickets in each of his last eight Test innings while playing at home.
99 – Stuart Broad now has picked up 99 wickets in international cricket against Pakistan which are the most by any England bowler. James Anderson is second on this list having picked up 97 international wickets against Pakistan till the second day of Southampton Test.
Shaheen’s long duck:
19 – Shaheen Shah Afridi’s 19-ball duck is now the longest-ball-faced-duck for Pakistan in Test cricket which was recorded through run out. Aaqib Javed spent 31 minutes at the crease with Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 1995 Harare Test before he bagged a 16-ball duck by getting runout. Overall, only three players got run out without scoring even after facing more than 19 balls in Men’s Test cricket. (Where balls faced is known).
Ian Chappell, in the 1968 SCG Test against India, and Herschelle Gibbs, in the 1999 Wellington Test against New Zealand, bagged 22-ball ducks before getting runout while Karsan Ghavri registered a 21-ball duck in the 1981 MCG Test against Australia before he got out in same fashion. Monty Panesar, in the 2007 SCG Test against the Aussies, also got runout after facing 19 balls without scoring.
